Following on from the record sale price of Brent Wong's Mean Time Exposure in the Paris Family Collection, A+O have successfully completed the private placement of the near-companion painting, Siren for an undisclosed amount.  Painted in 1970, the year prior to Mean Time Exposure, Siren was previously held in a local, private collection.  Whilst Mean Time Exposure is now in the collection of The Museum of New Zealand: Te Papa Tongarewa, Siren will remain in private hands.     

Paris Collection Becomes the Highest Grossing Art Auction In NZ History

Part Two of the Paris Collection took place in front of another healthy crowd of around 200 bidders last night.  By the time the sale had finished at 9:00pm over 4.52 million dollars worth of art had changed hands making it the highest grossing art auction of all time in this country.  212 of 235 lots offered were sold amounting to a sell through rate of just over 90%, again unheard of in the New Zealand secondary art market.  The full list of prices realized will be published on our website next week, some of the advance preliminary highlights from last night's second evening sale included:

Paris Collection: Evening One

The unprecedented attention which the sale of the Paris collection attracted in both the media and among collectors translated to a phenomenal evening in which all manner of New Zealand art records were broken.  Around 250 collectors battled it out in the saleroom as numerous artist benchmark prices were re-written.  With a sale total from evening one at a massive four million dollars, a strong second evening sale tonight could make this auction the highest grossing art auction ever in this country.  Some of the highlights are listed below.  All of the results will appear on our website.  Evening two takes place tonight at 6:30.  Ali Ikram from TV3 covered the auction and you can view his report here:

ART+OBJECT Return to Wellington to Exhibit Highlights from the Paris Collection

For the first time in over two years ART+OBJECT will exhibit in Wellington, this time at 30 Upstairs [An art project space] in Courtenay Place (www.30upstairs.co.nz).
In a fitting tribute we will be showing a small selection of highlights from the upcoming Les and Milly Paris Collection in their hometown of Wellington on Friday 31 August and Saturday 1 September with a preview to be held on the evening of Thursday 30 August.
