Important Paintings & Contemporary Art

Tuesday 26th November 2019

6.30pm - 3 Abbey Street, Newton, Auckland

Art+Object’s industry-leading catalogues and exhibitions of substantial New Zealand artworks take place three times per annum and this, our final sale for 2019, occurs amidst continued growth in the New Zealand art market with 2016, 2017, 2018 each resulting in record turnover in excess of 27 million dollars at auction, per annum. The past year has witnessed Art+Object set record prices for the work of Don Binney, Milan Mrkusich, John Pule, Barry Lett, Seung Yul Oh, Andy Warhol (in New Zealand) and held our first auction dedicated to the work of one artist alone.

This catalogue features a wonderful selection of contemporary New Zealand art, including works by Ralph Hotere, Patrick Hayman, Stephen Bambury, Francis Upritchard, Michael Smither and more. Of particular note is the important painting by Gordon Walters Untitled, 1977 (lot 62). We are also delighted to offer works from the Toi Collection (lots 73–79) and works from the Estate of Simon Manchester (lots 80–92). Simon was a great friend of Art+Object, a prolific collector, with an unbridled passion for fine art and ceramics. The first five lots of this auction are being sold in support of Auckland Pride and no buyer’s premium applies. We look forward to seeing you at the viewing.
