Celebrating Colin McCahon: An Auction Event

Tuesday 5th November 2019

6.30pm - 3 Abbey Street, Newton, Auckland

Art+Object announce a special event and auction to celebrate the centenary anniversary of the birth of New Zealand’s foremost painter, Colin McCahon (1919–1987). Coinciding with the impending publication of new monographs on the artist’s work and a major exhibition to be held at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki, Art+Object now invites limited, select consignments for a unique catalogue, exhibition and auction solely dedicated to McCahon’s work. An extended exhibition will be held prior to the auction, a limited–edition catalogue will be produced containing writing on the artist by leading authorities on his work, and a series of public events and floor talks will be held in the gallery, all to mark the significance of the event and to celebrate the artist’s contribution to the visual arts and culture of Aotearoa.

Realised $1 621 000 in September 2016. The highest price realised at auction for any work of art in New Zealand history.
