Riduan Tomkins is a much loved and respected teacher and mentor to a generation of New Zealand artists. As senior lecturer in painting at the University of Canterbury (Ilam) from 1985 to 1985 his influence and tutelage is recognized as a decisive factor in the careers of countless artists.
As an artist Riduan enjoyed a distinguished exhibition career after studying at the Royal College in London with exhibitions at the Whitechapel Gallery and Museum of Modern Art, New York. His work is held in public and private collections in New Zealand and internationally.
In recent years he has lived in Kalimantan, Indonesia where he has been instrumental in the development of an arts department at the University of Kalimantan.
Today Riduan requires costly medical treatment. His former students and colleagues are determined that receives the best care.
