A. Lois White (1903 - 1984) is one of New Zealand's most important mid-century modernist artists and along with Rita Angus, Adele Younghusband and Louise Henderson amongst our most important female artists of the period. White's concerns were wide ranging and covered lyrical allegorical scenes, Arcadian Biblical references, direct and at the time polemical political scenes and intimate portrait scenes and classical nudes.

A+O is pleased to present some 40 items of preparatory drawings, portraits and studies which provide an insight into this important artist's working practice. Predominantly works on paper in graphite, pastel  and charcoal this important body of works from the artist's estate offers a clear view of the technical skill and the central role of drawing to White's practice.
